The Deliber8 Manager

When you first move from an individual contributor to managing people, you shift from being responsible for the results you can solely produce to being responsible for THE PEOPLE who are responsible for those results. That requires a new mindset and skillset - skills many don’t properly learn or appropriately apply. Learn how to get results with and through others and become the boss everyone wants to work for and willingly follows

Who Should Attend?

Any first-time manager to C-suite executive wanting to apply the top 8 proven principles and practices to become a better manager of people.

We hold several sessions per year that are open enrolment to leaders in various companies so you can build your network and gain insights into other industries.

Note: for more seasoned leaders, although some of the principles may be known, our experience shows that common knowledge is not always common practice.  Many companies have their entire senior leadership team go through this course to ensure the right culture and example is shown from the top.

How to Attend?

We have in-person (two days in the same location) and virtual-live options (recurring two-hour sessions through Zoom).  Both are paired with digital videos and learning content you can access at your own speed.

Topics:

  1. Hold Effective One-On-Ones (O3s)
  2. Team Management
  3. Manage Your Mind & EQ (Emotional Intelligence)
  4. Feedback
  5. Coaching
  6. Delegate
  7. Develop
  8. Influence

One-On-Ones (O3s)

  • The #1 most impactful action to improve how you manage people is to hold consistent, reoccurring one-on-ones or “O3s” with each of your employees.
  • Managers who have O3s with their employees have better results.  Those employees are 3 times more likely to be engaged.  If you don’t have O3s, that employee is 4 times more likely to be disengaged.
  • Through using Myers Briggs, which is one of the many ways to understand preferences and styles, we’ll go through understanding your own preferences for how you communicate, manage projects, and how you make decisions.  You’ll gain empathy for and an understanding of the preferences of those you lead and can flex accordingly.

Team Management

  • Draft your Management Operating System or MOS, which outlines the main results and metrics you are accountable for or want to drive actions behind, and the actions and meetings you will proactively and repeatedly take to achieve the desired results. Your MOS is how you deliver the work with proper controls, communication and activity.
  • Set expectations by defining what is success for each person you lead.
  • How to lead an effective meeting.

Mind Management & EQ

  • Improve mental and emotional health by:  Gaining power over what you can control, reprograming your brain to believe on purpose; processing and even creating emotion, and taking action until desired results become reality.
  • Better identify and manage your own emotions and behaviors (stress/frustration), while also reading the emotions of others and responding more deliberately.

Feedback

  • Great managers have employees who know what to start, stop, and continue for improved performance.
  • Research shows that fair and accurate feedback can boost employee engagement by up to 40% and discretionary effort by up to 23.3%, but most managers don’t know how to do it well.
  • Learn a simple 5-step Feedback Framework that can be used during one-on-ones, or while delivering feedback in the form of performance reviews or compensation discussions.

Coaching

  • You want employees who can better solve problems and explore opportunities and solutions on their own.  Get an introduction to a simple coaching framework, called the GROW model, to aid in more effective collaborations that lead to employee development.

Delegate

  • Great managers are able to multiply your efforts and free up your time, while developing successors who can meet or exceed the results from when you were doing the work yourself.
  • After learning the process and framework to effectively delegate, you’ll define one area you will delegate and plan how to communicate it.

Develop

  • To understand how to develop someone, we’ll first focus on creating a development goal for you and then you can better understand how to do that for those you lead.  Your employees should always have development goals for their current role and possibly at least one to become ready to go to their next role, as part of your succession planning actions.

Influence

  • Leadership is intentional influence.  Understand the power of influence and how to develop the skill.
  • You’ll take a specific example in your own professional or personal life and create a plan for how you’ll influence others.
